The Iberian Theater and Performance Network (ITPN) is devoted to the study of Iberian theater and performance from a trans-historical perspective, bridging Golden Age theater (1580-1700) with contemporary playwriting, performance , and theatrical practices in the plurinational setting of the Iberian peninsula.
We are a network of scholars who research on theater and performance in the area of the Iberian peninsula. Activities of our network include organizing symposia and conferences, virtual meetings, and facilitating theatrical representations in higher-education institutions.
This first symposium was held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in September 2016. “Performing Spain. Theaters of Memory in Iberian Cultures” focused on historical memory in order to create the opportunity for critical dialogue and to push the limits of “historical memory” beyond the conventional focus on the Spanish Civil War, toward an overarching vision of larger implications for Iberian dramaturgies and performance traditions.
Our next meeting will convene on September 21 & 22, 2018 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Amherst College.
