María del Pilar Chouza-Calo

María del Pilar Chouza-Calo (chouz1m@cmich.edu) is an Associate Professor at Central Michigan University. She specializes in early modern Spanish literature and culture and Spanish Golden Age Theater. Her research features an interdisciplinary approach by studying the interplay between love theory, cultural studies, and early modern medicine in Spanish classical theater. Some of her publications include contributions in the recent books Teatro, personaje y discurso en el Siglo de Oro (2020), Fiesta y teatro en el Siglo de Oro: ámbito hispánico (2019), Et nunc et semper festa (2019), El teatro clásico en su(s) cultura(s): de los Siglos de Oro al siglo XXI (2017), among others. She has authored book chapters, articles and reviews on early modern Spanish literature with work in Bulletin of the Comediantes, Hispania Félix, eHumanista: Journal of Iberian Studies, Serenísima palabra: Biblioteca di Rassegna Iberistica, Estudis Lingüistics VIII, Anejos de Criticón, Archivum Calderonianum, Acta Moldaviae Septentrionalis, EUNSA. She is also the author of the critical editions of the plays Querer la propia desdicha (Gredos, 2016) by Lope de Vega and Agustín Moreto’s Nuestra Señora del Pilar (Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes, 2020).
